Foreign exchanges at Dalian Jiaotong University (DJTU) began in 1980 and have become more and more frequent with the university's development. Since China 's “Ninth Five-year Plan” was launched, there has been increasing communication with foreign countries and DJTU has established good cooperation with many colleges, universities and scientific research institutes in Japan, America, France, Germany, and Australia. We have employed many domestic and foreign scholars and experts as our honorary or advisory professors. The university has set up cooperative relations with universities in America and Australia, awarding academic degrees mutually, which has opened up a new form of higher education for our students. At the same time, we invite experts and scholars to come to our university, and we also go to foreign universities to undertake joint efforts in research and teaching. In recent years we have averaged 30 foreign teachers each year in different schools and departments in our university. Every year, there are more than 100 overseas experts and scholars visiting our university. In 1995, DJTU began its enrollment of foreign students, and nowmore than 150 foreign students are enrolled each year in our university. This system of foreign student education has been set up with our own characteristics. A new pattern of exchanges with foreign countries has been formed, and DJTU is still on its way to the future.
